Hire the electrician
not the logo.

When the call comes in at 11 p.m., you're not hiring a logo - you're hiring the electrician about to walk through your door. A licensed Epic master electrician or one of our ESA-licensed crew. Not a subcontractor. Not a franchise dispatcher.

TRIAGED BY HAZARD

The hazards you're facing right now
— and how we fix them

We've structured emergency response around the hazards Toronto homeowners and businesses actually call about. Find your situation below.

01
Residential

Power & safety emergencies in the home.

You're dealing with - sudden power loss or a breaker that won't reset. A burning smell, sparking outlet, or scorched receptacle. Panel buzzing or a circuit flickering and getting worse.
  • Make the area safe - live-circuit isolation before any diagnostic.
  • Full panel diagnostics with thermal imaging where appropriate.
  • Trace GFCI / AFCI faults to locate ground and arc faults that keep tripping.
  • Replace failed breakers, receptacles, fixtures - Eaton, Siemens, Square D, with FPE-compatible breakers stocked.
  • Stabilize knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring in older Toronto homes (Leslieville, Beaches, Riverdale).
  • Same-night fix on most residential faults - parts on the truck.
02
Commercial

After-hours business emergencies.

YOU'RE DEALING WITHRestaurant kitchen down or retail with no lighting. A tripped 3-phase breaker, or a server-room circuit out. A clinic that opens at 8 a.m. with no power.
  • Diagnose 3-phase / 600V systems, commercial panels & sub-panels.
  • Coordinate with Toronto Hydro on utility-side faults.
  • Recover rooftop and HVAC circuits after summer storms.
  • Code-compliant temporary power to keep you trading until a permanent fix.
  • Triaged ahead of non-urgent residential when business downtime is at stake.
  • Written documentation for your insurer or landlord, incident report, photos, scope, cause where determinable.
03
Service-Entrance

High-amperage and service-entrance faults.

YOU'RE DEALING WITHLightning strike or surge damage. A water-damaged service panel, melted meter base, or generator transfer-switch failure. A 200-amp service that's failed entirely.
  • Coordinate with Toronto Hydro for safe disconnect at the supply side.
  • Diagnose and replace service-entrance components, mast, meter base, main breaker, neutral conductor.
  • Repair generator interlocks and transfer switches.
  • ESA permit pulled and inspection booked the next business day, scope documented overnight.
  • Storm-damage documentation for insurance claims.
  • Surge-protection upgrade quoted before close-out.
STOP. CALL. DON'T WAIT. Smoke or sparks · burning smell · panel hot to touch · water near electrical · anyone shocked · breaker tripping repeatedly. Cut the main breaker if you can do so safely, then call.

SAFETY

Electrical emergency safety:
what to do before help arrives.

An electrical emergency is one of the few household problems where doing the right thing in the first sixty seconds matters as much as who you call. Here's what every Toronto homeowner should know.

01STEP

Cut the main breaker

If you can reach the panel safely and the panel itself isn't the problem (no smoke, no buzzing, not hot to the touch).

02STEP

Unplug sensitive equipment

Fridges, computers, TVs, anything with a circuit board. Surge events can keep arriving after the first one.

03STEP

Don't touch the panel

Stay back from outlets and any visibly damaged equipment. If something is wet, sparking, or smoking, keep your distance until a licensed electrician arrives.

04STEP

Keep people and pets clear

Move children, pets, and anyone else away from the affected area. Stay out of any room with visible smoke, water near electrical, or a hot panel.

If you smell strong burning, see flames, or hear sustained crackling from inside a wall, call 911 first. Then call a licensed electrician. Fire safety beats electrical repair every time. Once the fire crew clears the property, the panel must be inspected and re-energized by a licensed electrician before power is restored.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

How to choose an emergency
electrician in Toronto.

A 20-minute fix can become a $1,500 invoice with no permit and a repair that fails again next winter. Here are seven things to verify before you let anyone open your panel — whether you call us or not.

Category
⚡ What to verify
Why it matters
Who shows up
An ECRA/ESA-licensed electrician. Ask for the license number on the call.
Anyone working unlicensed on residential electrical in Ontario is breaking the Electrical Safety Code.
Pricing
A flat-rate diagnostic disclosed before dispatch, and a written quote before any repair.
If the price isn't named on the call, you have no leverage when the invoice arrives.
Permits
Service-entrance work, panel changes, and new circuits should be permitted and ESA-inspected.
Skipping a required permit can affect home insurance and resale.
Vehicle & ID
A marked vehicle, a photo ID badge, and proof of liability insurance available on request.
If a stranger can't show ID at the door, you don't have to let them in.
Parts on hand
Common breakers, receptacles, and fixtures stocked on the truck.
A second visit at full call-out rate is how a $300 fix becomes a $900 fix.
Documentation
A written invoice listing parts, labour, scope of work, and any permits pulled.
Insurance, warranty, and resale all depend on having paper.
Payment
Card, e-transfer, or cheque on completion.
Cash-only with no receipt is a tax-evasion signal, not a discount.

FAQS

Emergency electrician
FAQs.

Common questions about electrical emergencies in Toronto, answered.

Q · 01How fast can an emergency electrician get to my door in Toronto?

It depends on where you are. Typical response windows: under 60 minutes in our North York core, 60 to 90 minutes across the inner GTA, and 90 to 120 minutes for the outer GTA. Traffic, weather, and call volume can shift these. We quote your actual ETA when you call, not a vague "as soon as possible."

Q · 02What counts as an electrical emergency, and what can wait until morning?

Call right now if: you smell burning plastic, see smoke or sparks, an outlet or panel is hot to the touch, water is contacting electrical equipment, anyone has been shocked, or a breaker is tripping repeatedly. Likely safe until morning: a single dead outlet on an otherwise normal circuit, a flickering bulb that stops when you change it, or a GFCI that resets and stays reset. Not sure? Call us. We'll triage the situation on the phone before you commit to anything.

Q · 03What does an after-hours emergency electrician cost in Toronto?

Our flat-rate emergency service call starts from $99, which includes travel and up to 60 minutes of on-site assessment. Any repair beyond the service call is quoted in writing before we proceed. You approve the price, then we work.

Q · 04Are you actually licensed, and how do I verify it?

Yes. Epic Electric Service Inc. is registered with the Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario as an ECRA/ESA-licensed Electrical Contractor. Verify our licence in real time at findacontractor.esasafe.com. Every invoice we issue includes our licence number, and we encourage you to verify before any electrician opens your panel.

Q · 05Will my home insurance cover an emergency electrical repair?

That depends on your insurer and the cause of the emergency. Most home insurance policies cover sudden electrical damage from events like storms, surges, or accidental water exposure, but require the repair be done by a licensed ESA contractor and, when scope demands, permitted and ESA-inspected. Our written invoice includes our ECRA/ESA licence number, fault description, and ESA notification number when a permit is pulled. Bring it to your insurer when you file the claim.

Q · 06Do you handle commercial electrical emergencies?

Yes. Restaurants, retail, salons, clinics, small warehouses, and server rooms. We diagnose 3-phase and 600V systems, coordinate with Toronto Hydro on supply-side faults, and provide written fault documentation for your insurer, landlord, or franchise compliance.

Q · 07How do I pay?

Credit card, e-transfer, or cheque on completion of work. Every invoice includes our ECRA/ESA licence number, scope of work, parts, labour, and any permit numbers. Useful for warranty, insurance claims, and resale records.
